A decade traversed across the sub-polar wilderness.
Documenting the volatile boundary where ancient volcanic basalt meets monumental glacial ice across Iceland, New Zealand, and Patagonia.
true landscape photography in sub-polar climates is largely an exercise in patience and restraint. Reaching remote valleys in Iceland's central highlands or navigating the wet temperate rainforests below New Zealand's southern fiords requires moving on foot with self-supported camp gear and heavy medium-format bodies.
I spend weeks in total solitude waiting for momentary shifts in polar light. The goal is never to capture a postcard sunset, but to document the raw geological texture of stone, mist, and deep blue glacial pressure ice at true scale.
Sub-polar winter & autumn solstices
Glacier ice, volcanic scree, tundra
Southern Alps & Andean ridges
Minimal footprint solo backcountry

Captured during a gale-force autumn squall at dusk. Basalt ridges framed against receding blue ice margins.
A Decade of Stills Across Extreme Latitudes
Every body of work represents weeks of field navigation. Explore the milestones that shaped current collections in Iceland, New Zealand, and Patagonia.
Volcanic Basalt & Glacial Light
Landmannalaugar & Fjallsárlón
Traversed volcanic desert tracks to capture the collision between ancient obsidian fields and shifting glacial ice under freezing midnight skies.

Alpine Rivers & Coastal Mist
Southern Alps & Fiordland
Documented glacial melt channels through Mount Aspiring, waiting for maritime fog to break across steep granite headwalls.

Granite Spires & Gale Winds
Torres del Paine & Fitz Roy
Endured sustained Patagonian winds along high ridgelines to photograph dawn illumination on vertical granite and calving ice.

Black Sand & Ice Fragments
Vatnajökull & Diamond Beach
A two-week vigil observing tide-tumbled ice diamonds stranded along volcanic black sands, framed against autumn twilight.
